I love hamburger patties with gravy and mashed potatoes. It’s a comfort food for sure.
In a large mixing bowl combine the following:
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 fresh shallot (finely chopped)
- 1 Baby Bella or brown mushroom ( finely chopped)
- 1 mini red bell pepper (finely chopped)
- 1/2 finely chopped jalapeño (stem, seeds, membrane removed) – optional
Wearing disposable gloves, mix well combining all ingredients. Shape into a large ball and place on a flat surface. Divide the meat into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty. Season with salt and pepper on both sides of patty. Make a indentation in the center of each party. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a 5 quart Dutch Oven. Arrange all patties in hot Dutch Oven. Seat on both sides. Chop 1 red or orange mini bell pepper and arrange around patties. Reduce heat, cover and continue to cook until meat is cooked thru. Remove meat from heat and set aside covered with foil while you make gravy.
Stir 2-3 tablespoons of flour into cooked mini pepper and meat drippings. Stir and cook on medium high until browned. Add water and simmer to desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper.
Spoon over hamburger patties and serve hot.
